The Family Next Door - Release day giveaway

Review by Darcie Czajkowski
In a quiet suburban town, mothers Essie, Fran, and Ange appear to have a lot in common. They love their children and their husbands and also work hard to keep their secrets hidden. That’s easy when neighbors wave with smiles plastered on their faces, but real, true friendships where confidences are shared evade them.

Essie’s secret involves a postpartum moment when she left her infant daughter in the park. Now that she has a second child, she fears that she’s on the brink of another, similar incident.

Ange always wanted a girl but has two energetic boys instead. She also has a gorgeous husband who adores his boys. But does he share the same devotion for Ange?
Fran is an attorney who adroitly balances motherhood and her career. But when her husband fell into a depression following a financial loss, Fran struggled to support him and now lives with the guilt of her actions.

Then Isabelle moves in next door to Essie. No children. No husband. Employment unclear. Neighbors begin to whisper, positing theories as to Isabelle’s motivation for moving to a sleepy town where single women don’t often desire to live. Essie, Ange, and Fran are convinced that Isabelle is hiding something. Something big. But what?

In “The Family Next Door,” Sally Hepworth explores difficult choices that women commonly have to make in a beautiful, engaging way. The characters feel real and fully developed which make it easy to invest in the story. The author does a wonderful job of unfurling bits of information at a smooth, steady pace which keeps the reader wanting more. The Family Next Door is Wisteria Lane in a novel, every bit as juicy and thrilling.
