Q&A With the Author
What was your
inspiration for writing a cookbook?
I discovered a few years ago that readers love when I
share recipes. I have a bunch available for free on my website, www.susanmallery.com.
Last year, my editor asked whether I’d be interested in pulling them together
and working with a cookbook developer to come up with the Fool’s Gold Cookbook.
I have to say, it turned out spectacular! There are 150 recipes – California
casual cuisine – for everyday and for special occasions. They’re all pretty
quick and easy because the truth is, I’m too busy to spend hours in the
kitchen. I’m a writer, first, last, and always.
Since writing romance is what I do best, I wrote an
exclusive romantic novella that’s included in the Fool’s Gold Cookbook. Chefs
Ana Raquel and Greg heat things up in the kitchen and on the pages. The story
is a gift for my longtime readers, and also a way that new readers can get a
taste of Fool’s Gold. An amuse bouche.
Describe your book in three words.
Recipes and romance.
Do you prefer print books or e-books?
For fiction, I honestly don’t have a preference. For
me, it’s all about the story, and I don’t care whether I get that story by
reading paper, pixels, or by listening to an audiobook. However, for cookbooks,
I definitely prefer print. So much easier to flip back and forth to the index.
What would people be
surprised to learn about you?
That I love crabby
women. I find them endlessly entertaining! And perhaps people would be
surprised to discover that I am occasionally *cough, cough* crabby, as well.
What can your readers
expect next from you?
Next up is CHRISTMAS
ON 4TH STREET, a Fool’s Gold romance. One of my Christmas traditions is to read
romances to get me into the spirit of the season, so it’s always thrilling when
I’m asked to write one. If you’ve never read a Fool’s Gold romance before,
start with this one.
Noelle Perkins has
opened the Christmas Attic in downtown Fool’s Gold. Unfortunately, just as the
holiday rush hits, snow hits the mountains, and all of her flaky seasonal
employees quit to go skiing. Enter Gabriel Boylan, an Army doctor on medical
leave. Gabriel is experiencing compassion fatigue. Helping Noelle for the
holidays is the perfect distraction while he decides whether to return to the
combat zone. The one thing he’s determined to do is to protect himself from
falling in love. Life is too tenuous to put your heart on the line, Gabriel
thinks. Noelle knows the opposite is true – life is short, so when you find
love, you have to grab hold and never let go. Maybe a little Christmas magic will
open Gabriel’s heart.
If you enjoy getting
swept away by small-town, Christmas romance, then you’ll love CHRISTMAS ON 4TH STREET.
