About the author:
I'm a freelance editor and writer based in Brooklyn and the Dominican Republic. I graduated with honors from Harvard University ('00) and spent fifteen years working in New York City's top publishing houses.

In 2015, I made the exciting/terrifying decision to leave behind a successful career as an acquiring editor and go out on my own. I wanted to be free to put one hundred percent of my time, energy, and focus into working with writers—and spend less of it in meetings, running profit & loss statements, and eating overpriced chopped salads at my desk when instead I could be happily working from home or abroad.

The Magdalen Girls - Pub Week Promo & Giveaway

Dublin, 1962. Within the gated grounds of the convent of The Sisters of the Holy Redemption lies one of the city’s Magdalen Laundries. Once places of refuge, the laundries have evolved into grim workhouses. Some inmates are “fallen” women—unwed mothers, prostitutes, or petty criminals. Most are ordinary girls whose only sin lies in being too pretty, too independent, or tempting the wrong man. Among them is sixteen-year-old Teagan Tiernan, sent by her family when her beauty provokes a lustful revelation from a young priest.

Teagan soon befriends Nora Craven, a new arrival who thought nothing could be worse than living in a squalid tenement flat. Stripped of their freedom and dignity, the girls are given new names and denied contact with the outside world. The Mother Superior, Sister Anne, who has secrets of her own, inflicts cruel, dehumanizing punishments—but always in the name of love. Finally, Nora and Teagan find an ally in the reclusive Lea, who helps them endure—and plot an escape. But as they will discover, the outside world has dangers too, especially for young women with soiled reputations.

Told with candor, compassion, and vivid historical detail, The Magdalen Girls is a masterfully written novel of life within the era’s notorious institutions—and an inspiring story of friendship, hope, and unyielding courage.

Bought to Carry His Heir - Review

Review by Marlene Engel
Having lost their parents four years ago, sisters Georgia and Savannah are all each other have.  Being the oldest, Georgia has taken on full financial and emotional responsibility for her younger sister.  Including putting her through college while attending medical school herself.  No matter the financial burden, Georgia is determined to do everything to keep their heads above water.  When she’s asked to be the surrogate for a Greek tycoon, the money’s too good to pass up.  What she didn’t expect was to have to bend to his every demand.

Nikos is the last living heir to the Panos empire.  Isolated and alone since he was left disfigured, he’s hoping that a son will help ease the guilt he has felt for the past five years and allow him to move on with his life.  When choosing the appropriate woman to carry the next heir to the Panos legacy, he was pleasantly surprised when he found that one greatly resembled his late wife.  But when they meet for the first time, he starts to wonder if being around a woman who looks so much like Elsa was a good idea.

While their initial interaction was laced with tension, on a remote island in Greece as the backdrop for much of this story, it will be impossible to deny the feelings that both are quickly developing.

Say Goodbye For Now - Pub Day Giveaway

On an isolated Texas ranch, Dr. Lucy cares for abandoned animals. The solitude allows her to avoid the people and places that remind her of the past. Not that any of the townsfolk care. In 1959, no one is interested in a woman doctor. Nor are they welcoming Calvin and Justin Bell, a newly arrived African American father and son.
When Pete Solomon, a neglected twelve-year-old boy, and Justin bring a wounded wolf-dog hybrid to Dr. Lucy, the outcasts soon find refuge in one another. Lucy never thought she’d make connections again, never mind fall in love. Pete never imagined he’d find friends as loyal as Justin and the dog. But these four people aren’t allowed to be friends, much less a family, when the whole town turns violently against them.
With heavy hearts, Dr. Lucy and Pete say goodbye to Calvin and Justin. But through the years they keep hope alive…waiting for the world to catch up with them.

She writes sweet (and sometimes even funny) romances for Samhain Publishing, Avalon Books/Montlake Romance and now Entangled Publishing. She won third place in the RWA 2006 NYC's Kathryn Hayes Love and Laughter Contest with her first book, THE ROLE OF A LIFETIME.
