Review by KT Sullivan
Hannah
Martin is back in Los Angeles and staying with her best friend, Gabby. A bunch
of people met up at a bar and Ethan, Hannah’s high school boyfriend, shows up.
At the end of the evening, should Hannah leave with Gabby or stay with Ethan?
The rest of the book follows her through each choice separately. With Gabby,
she’s seriously injured in a hit and run accident. Henry is her night nurse at
the hospital, she develops a crush and he makes sure she gets chocolate
pudding. With Ethan, she discovers she’s pregnant with her former married
boyfriend’s child. Will Ethan be willing to be a father to her child? In both
scenarios, Hannah must find a job, a car, and accept all her new
responsibilities. She adopts a dog and sets up another chain of events involving
Gabby and her husband, Mark. Even with Hannah’s life taking major detours
depending on her decision, some things never change. Hannah’s love of cinnamon
rolls, Gabby’s friendship, her parents’ love for Hannah, and Hannah’s family’s
concern for her are the touchstones in both her lives.
A very
intriguing premise for a story, based on a small decision, Hannah’s life is
changed forever. Hannah has a child with three different men, depending on if
she leaves the bar or not. The first step is the toughest and makes her
question everything. I’m torn about which ending I prefer. Ethan and Henry are
both great guys and good for her. Enjoyable read.
