The Unexpected Bride - Blurb

Blurb:
Laurent Fletcher has to admit his life would be a whole heap better if there was woman in it. His kids are running wild, and his dog is acting crazy; he’s been finding it tough to juggle everything since his wife died and run his successful custom-built furniture business.  But maybe there is a solution that won’t demand any emotional input from him: hire a female to whip his turbulent household back into shape.

Emma Peabody is a British nanny, looking for a new life.  When she arrives at Copper Creek and finds two small motherless children, a miserable pet and a man who’s placed his emotions in the deep-freeze, she realizes she’s joined a broken family and it will be down to her to put it back together again.

The kids and the dog are easy—all they need are routines and love.  Their father is something else.  Laurent isn’t about to drop his guard and let Emma work her magic—and it doesn’t help that she finds this dark, brooding man incredibly attractive…

About the Author:
Joanne Walsh became hooked on romance when her grandma gave her a copy of Gone with the Wind for her birthday.  The teachers at her strict girls’ school didn’t approve of a ten-year-old reading such a ‘racy’ novel and confiscated it.  But Joanne still became a voracious romance reader and, later, an editor for one of the world’s leading women’s fiction publishers, where she could do two of her favorite things: work with her beloved alpha-male heroes and spend time in the USA.

These days, Joanne lives in the south of England and divides her time between freelance editing, writing and spending time with her very own real-life alpha…

Dr. Sam Burnside is convinced that volunteering at an urban green-space farm in Lakefield, Ohio, is a waste of time—especially with his new health clinic about to open. Her easy smile and flirty, sizzling wit has him forgetting his infamous need for control.

Widowed when her husband was killed in Afghanistan, Nina has learned that life exists to take chances. As the daughter of migrant workers turned organic farmers, she’s built an exciting and successful business by valuing new opportunities and working hard to take care of her own. Guest Post

The role of family relationships in romance (How the Burnside Family dynamic helps add to the depth of the characters and the romance)

For me, using a family as the emotional center of a romance developing in a romance novel is an obvious narrative choice. None of us fall in love in a vacuum -- our love affects change on everyone around us, most particularly our families (by birth and by choice). Love changes us, and those who will be most interested and most threatened by that change will be family members, and in a narrative, this creates dramatic tension and the opportunity to explore ideas.

It's simply not as interesting to stick to the hero and heroine on every page -- as we watch them fall in love, we want more context than their inner emotional lives. As readers, we will always have questions about how the protagonists got the way that they are, and for most of us, what shapes us is our families. What's more, family members and friends in a novel provide alternate perspectives on our protagonists and give the reader different reasons to support/doubt/empathize with the protagonists or the protagonist's goals.

It's nice to echo themes in secondary story lines, as well. It's satisfying as a reader to feel well taken care of by the author, and a richly imagined cast of characters, who reflect the arguments of the book, is one way to do that.

Crazy Little Thing - Review & Giveaway

Review by Marlene Engel

Freshly divorced from her cheating husband, Sadie decides that a much needed summer vacation may be just what the doctor ordered.  So when she takes her children and heads to her aunt’s lake house, her only real plans are to relax and keep away from men for the duration of her stay.  But, as we all know, even the best laid out plans don’t always turn out how we want them to.  Not only were her two male cousins staying there during that time, a very male (and sexy!) man living a few houses down has caught her eye.  However, she refuses to admit that she’s attracted to him … even to herself!  She tries to convince everybody that she’s not ready to date.  But as Des, the hot neighbor, and her paths keep crossing, it’s hard to deny the chemistry between the two.  Will Sadie be able to let down her guard and allow herself to be vulnerable around Des?  Or has her ex-husband’s adulterous ways soured her towards men and relationships for good?

I’ve read a lot of books!  But there’s nothing like finding a new author and just falling in love with her writing from the very first line.  That’s exactly what happened to me while reading Crazy Little Thing by Tracy Brogan.  The very first line had me laughing out loud!  Right then and there I knew that this was going to be my type of book!  The humor was spot on, the story kept my attention from the first page to the last and the characters were all zany and fun!  It’s safe to say that Tracy Brogan has a fan in me!  I’m excited to say that her next book, The Best Medicine, which is a sequel to this book, is due out on May 13.  I will not only be posting my review for The Best Medicine on May 20th, I will also have another giveaway of a tote bag full of Tracy Brogan swag!  If you haven’t read Crazy Little Thing yet, you must get it!  I promise you that you will love it as much as I did!

The Sassy Belles - Review

Blake O’Hare Heart is an attorney and narrator of the story. Her best friend, Vivi Ann McFadden, thinks her main squeeze and Blake’s brother in law, Lewis is dead. Blake contacts her husband Harry and they all go to claim the body from a local hotel. One problem, the body is gone, but the sex toys are recovered. Where is Lewis Heart? Sonny Bartholomew is Blake’s high school flame, the town sheriff, and newly divorced. He still loves Blake and senses she feels the same. Blake planned to ask Harry for a trial separation before Lewis disappeared. Harry’s more focused on the possibility of a scandal because he plans to run for the Senate. Blake’s grandmother and mother are the grand dames of the town. All go to them for advice and comfort. Maybe even the missing Lewis. Blake tries to focus on something else and returns to her pet project, saving a local landmark. Her opponents give Blake a lesson in how politics works. Harry’s part in the deal and a dalliance with a local reporter sever his marriage ties. Blake is free to pursue Sonny and doesn’t waste time. The ending brings surprises and revelations of the past.

Sonny and Blake make a true couple. So much love and emotion left to simmer over the years brings them together. Lewis and Vivi start as a joke, but the bond is true.

I love the fact the women use their full names, especially maiden names. It brings me back to my youth where strong women presided over their families and the town. Sought for their wisdom and love, they opened the door to all who knocked.

About the Author:
After knowing Beth Albright for just a few short seconds you are sure to learn she is from Alabama. No, it’s not the lilt of magnolia you can still catch in her voice, or even the way she lovingly describes her undying love for her famous alma mater's football champions. She will tell you she loves Tuscaloosa, even after living quite literally all over the country. Though Beth has had a remarkable career, from New York City to Hollywood, and all points in between, she has never forgotten where she came from...and what she loves. That's why when it came time to write, Beth had no choice but to write about Tuscaloosa and The University of Alabama, and all the quirky people she still calls family, though some do not actually share her bloodline!

Beth Albright has always been a storyteller. After spending nearly 15 years in talk radio, as a talk show host, playing the part of a principal character on the soap opera, DAYS OF OUR LIVES, owning her own acting school and children's theater, and raising a son who is a nationally ranked figure skater, Beth has decided to return to her roots; storytelling. When she was in the sixth grade, her teacher gave her the floor every Friday to tell her stories. See, Beth was a talker, a future talk show host in the making, and she was telling stories so much that her teacher couldn't teach. Well, this brilliant teacher told 12 year old Beth if she would begin writing her stories down, she would be allowed time to share those stories with the class. And she's been writing, AND talking ever since. Beth has interviewed Bob Hope, Oprah Winfrey, Betty White, Wolfgang Puck and George Burns live from the Chinese Theatre, as well as numerous other celebrities, and authors. Then Beth became a principal character on Days of Our Lives. But through all of the excitement of talk shows and soap operas, Beth loved telling stories to her audience the most. With a degree in Journalism from her beloved University of Alabama, She remains true to her roots and has never forgotten where she comes from. Born and raised in Tuscaloosa, "My grandfather was the play by play announcer for the Crimson Tide in the 50s!" Beth will proudly tell you, she is a down homespun girl, although she currently lives in San Francisco with her TV producer husband and her brilliant son. She has just completed her first trilogy, The Sassy Belles, and her first screen play, Kiss Me Goodnight.

A Questionable Friendship - Blurb, Q&A and Giveaway

Blurb:
Brynne Ropert and Portland Dolish have been best friends since being paired as roommates in college. Seven years later they are now twenty-five, married, and living in Maine–– but the two women couldn’t be more different. Brynne finds fulfillment in her life as a wife, mother and owner of a small café and bookshop, but is struggling to expand her family. Portland is still coping with her mother’s death during her childhood, and her marriage is unraveling before her eyes. Portland envies her friend’s seemingly stable and easy life while Brynne doesn’t understand the growing distance between them and cannot begin to guess what secret Portland is hiding about her husband and crumbling marriage. While one woman feels shut out, the other enters into a web of lies to protect herself.

A Questionable Friendship explores what really makes someone a true friend, a support system, a sister. How much trust goes into a friendship and when is being a friend not enough? Brynne and Portland’s story will attempt to answer those questions, and show that happily ever after isn’t in the cards for everyone.

Q&A With Samantha March
How do you juggle being an author, having your own book blog and being the owner of Marching Ink publishing company?
Organization. Passion. Little sleep. In addition to those I also work for BookTrope Publishing as a book manager, a full time job at a hospital, and am a wife and a new puppy owner. My day is filled starting from early morning to late at night (and sometimes early morning) but working with books is my passion, and I don’t feel like I’m working – most of the time. But everyone needs a break sometimes!

When did you know you wanted to become an author?
When I was about nine years old. I have been obsessed with books and characters since around that time, and I really wanted to create my own worlds with all these voices I hear in my head!

What is your favorite genre to read?
I love chick lit and run the site Chick Lit Plus, and also enjoy romantic comedies, women’s fiction, new adult and mysteries.

Where did you come up with the premise for your new book?
I got into a little tiff with a friend once and my mind just went into overdrive and built from there. I honestly can’t remember what our argument (which lasted for about a night) was about, but my writer mind can take overhearing a stranger having an argument on the phone and create a plot.

Describe your book in three words.
Engaging. Realistic. Honest.

What’s your go to snack when you’re writing?
Ice cream is my go-to snack for everything.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?
Hmmm, maybe that I’m a rap superstar. Seriously.

What can your readers expect next from you?
I’m currently in the early stages of writing book number 4. Hopefully that will release in early 2015!

I want to thank Samantha for taking the time out of her busy schedule to chat with me.  Maybe next time I can see if she will rap for us!

Blurb:
Eve is ready for a clean slate. She nearly lost the love of her life in The Return. Now Eve must confront the people refusing to let her go quietly into her happily ever after with Jake. Returning to Newport to tie up loose ends may be the biggest mistake of her life.

Jake wants one thing – and one thing only – Eve. He is ready to build a life with her, and spend the rest of his days loving only her. But his surprise visit to Newport makes him question everything he thought he knew about her, including her love.

At the center of the turmoil is Eve’s ex-husband. Intrigued by the changes he sees in her, Brad is determined to sabotage Jake and Eve’s relationship – and take Eve back.

Jake and Eve must face their demons, and battle the outside forces that seek to destroy their future. Can their love survive the Return to Newport?

Excerpt:
Jake. It nagged at her that she had still not had a word from him. She walked into the kitchen to find some crackers to calm her now upset stomach. What the hell was going on? She heard the kitchen door open, but had already pressed the button for Jake’s phone, and she didn’t turn around. Clarissa’s voice filled the air around her.

“Hey, Mom, I have a surprise for you,” her voice sang.

“Hold on Clarissa, I’m on the phone. I haven’t heard from Jake all day,” she muttered more to herself than for Clarissa’s benefit. Jake’s voicemail picked up, and Eve shifted her weight as she heard the beep. “Jake, where the hell are you?”

“I’m right here, beautiful,” came the deep voice behind her.

Eve turned around, and her eyes met the most beautiful blue eyes that she had ever seen - the ones that held the deepest love - all for her.

“Jake,” she exhaled, and came towards him. Her arms went around his neck, and she launched herself at him. He wrapped his arms around her waist, holding her tightly against his body. She pressed her lips against his, tilting her head to the side, and slipping her tongue into his mouth. She was desperate for him, needed to feel him, make sure he was truly there.

“Geez, you two, get a room,” Clarissa’s voice giggled behind them. Eve placed her forehead against Jake’s, eyes closed, and breathed him in. All the worry, the fears - the demons - all of them melted away with the stroke of his hands across her back.

He exhaled, and pulled Eve tighter against his body, whispering in her ear, “Now everything feels right again.”
